I have kids, and it scares me to think what would happen if they ran into the middle of the street...

[/ QUOTE ]
I never really understtod this. In all my time growing up I never saw any of my friends spontaneously deside that "into the middle of the street" was a good place to run, especially with oncoming traffic. If that guy's kids are really itching to play some real life Frogger I think they have bigger problems than you going a few mph over the speed limit.

[/ QUOTE ]

When people talk about kids running into the street, they are referring to five year olds who might dart after an errant ball without thinking about where they are going.

Why is this so difficult to imagine?

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably because he doesn't have kids.

More likely because I was smart enough not to do that by the time I had enough motor skills to "dart" anywhere.

Not all two and three year olds (who can dart quite well) are as smart as you remember being. Living in a neighborhood with a fair number of small children, my default assumption is that they aren't that smart, and I drive accordingly.

I doubt there are lots of kids running around on roads that have traffic lights. Doesn't really matter of course, I just hate that line of reasoning that most people have. If your kids are actively trying to get run over maybe it's better off that way.

There was no danger to others. I could see in both directions. I drive extremely agressively, but safer than all gradnmothers. There are better people to worry about I, but you may have flipped me off once or twice.
