Default Counting /keeping track of amount of $ in pot....

This is a weird question and I just thought of it after playing yesterday?

How do people recomend keeping track of the amount of money in the pot?

I would like to here people's approaches and what they think works best...

1. Keep track of number of chips as they are going in (i.e 4-8 game with 2$ chips "alright two people have limped and with the blinds that is 7 chips, my call will make it 9...)

2. Keep track of actualy monetary amount

3. Keep track of number of big or small bets

Just want to know what people think.

Appologize in advance for the randomness of this question.

I prefer to keep track of the money amount when playing NL.

$2/$5 NL. UTG makes it $20 to go, 3 callers, blinds fold. Dealer says "4 players" means $80 in the middle + blinds ($87). I admit I do 'round it up/down' once it gets over $50-ish. This is easier in NL, as the game runs a little slower than LHE and it makes me focus on those who are 'in the pot'.

I just count bets in LHE.

In limit count small bets. Convert these to big bets when you reach the turn.

In NL, count the money--but this is much easier in NL than limit.

For limit I find it easiest to add the number of small bets as they are being made. Divide your total by two on the turn and add the number of bb being made.

count bets.

preflop, count number of people seeing flop, multiply by number of bets per person and add any dead money (blinds, etc.) repeat as necessary for later streets. its especially easy when you have a dealer who tells you the number of players left on each street.
