Default Where did you guys learn how to play NL ?

I just lost all the money in my party poker account. I think I just lost control. I'm tired of playing .10/.25 NL and beating it and I want to play a higher limit.

I can beat .10/.25 NL for 12 BB/100 and that's good but I want more.

So where did you learn ? Did someone mentor you?

Most people here will probably say a combination of experience, and trial and error. I spent a good year playing online poker before I became a profiting player. Its also very frustrating with how easily you can blow a couple buy-ins and how long it can take to make it back. The element of my poker game I wish I had more of is patience. I wish I had the patience to play at a limit that is suited for my bankroll; however, I feel like I'm wasting my time by winning 10BBs/100 on a .5/1 table. I also wish I had the patience to build up a roll at a certain level so that I may advance in limits and be properly bankrolled; however, I find myself trying to make too many plays and unnecessarily blowing a buy-in here and there.

Just my thoughts. I'm sure there's a bunch of people out there in the same boat.

My advice is to keep playing cash games in which you are suitably rolled for and mix in some tournaments whenever you feel your play is starting to become mechanical. That seemed to be the best approach for me when I was tailoring my game. I'd be curious to see other players approaches,
-Ace

I'd be happy if I could beat the .50/1 NL game. I'm not sure I can beat that. I beat .10/.25 NL for 12 BB/100 and on some sites, I can beat .25/.50 NL but I'd like to go higher.

learning to play no limit is not something you just do, and then you've got it down pat. it is a continual process that one never actually masters. your game has to adjust with the times as opponents are constantly learning and mixing it up.

i started with reading a book, and playing limit poker. then i discovered 2+2 from the back of the book. i swithched from full table to 6 max. i started playing no limit tourneys. then finally, i am playing mostly no limit and pot limit ring games. i learn something new all the time, and there are certainly times when i feel i am on my A+ game, and times where i feel i can't do anything right. hell, i may end up back in limit for all i know...or omaha or stud for that matter.

cheers!

your play, brilliant imo

just play within ur bankroll. read books and 2+2.
don't rush to the next level, the players r only going to get harder to beat. at low level sometimes, yes, u r getting sucked out on. but the higher u go, the more u will get out played if u r not ready for it.
