So, the tax isn't really because it's for a wedding, it's because we're reselling.

[/ QUOTE ]

Aha, I see now.

Well, congrats on getting married - hope you have a fun wedding!

Since we're reselling it, we need a liquor license. I'm too cheap to have an open bar, and my friends drink too damn much anyhow.

So you are bitching because you are going to be Selling liquor at your wedding????

Ok I can understand not being able to afford an open bar at a wedding..I'm sure it gets quite expensive.. but arent you going to get your $$$ back if you are selling it????

Another thing to consider is people tend to give less at weddings with a cash bar than they do at ones w/ open bars

Success!!!

I made it to an LCBO on time before close and dropped a few hundred, mostly on vodka .

I didn't really get enough to be reselling to people though because of the uncertainty of how long this strike is going to last, if it turns out to be a long one I may have to start thinking about that 8 hour drive to Montreal I heard someone else suggesting.

What is the LCBO exactly? Are you saying the actual liquor stores there are govt owned?

[/ QUOTE ]

In Ontario, the government seems to think if liquor were available privately, we'd all be raging alcoholics. So, you can only buy hard liquor at government owned liquor stores - the LCBO. They also handle things like licensing for bars & private functions, etc. You can buy beer at the Beer Store (yes, that's what it's called) which is owned by Labatt's and Molson, and wine at privately owned wine stores. But that's all. Even restaurants and bars have to buy from the LCBO.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it's more about profit and how much money the gov't makes from the LCBO that makes them keep a monopoly over the sales rather then some idea of looking after our health.

IF we sell everything we open, and have almost no half-bottles left over that we can't return, then we'll break even. I'm not bitching that they charge more - I'm bitching that they are charging me more tax. As if I don't pay enough already.

As for people not giving as much - I don't give a [censored]. Any more gd small appliances in my apartment, and I'm gonig to have to find somewhere else to live.

Congrats, too bad the strike has been averted, they made a deal. Don't drink all that vodka at once now.

What a brilliant ploy to drive up those sales.
