The point is, the exposed card does become the burn card.

I can't remember the name of it, but there is a variation of 5 stud where 4 straits and 4 flushes beat 1 pair but not 2 and I definitely read about it in a poker book... I'm looking at my 20ish books now and can't for the life of me remember which one it's in.
