Read low hands by starting with the big cards first. Whichever is lower wins.

Therefore: 7543A is lower than 7642A

In this case (board JA478), the nut low would be from someone holding 32 (low hand = 7432A).

in your example, it's a 3 5 beating a 2 6 for low. The A counterfeits both your hands.

I'm glad somebody else has this problem also. When I was learning . . . .LOL (still am) these kinds of hands gave me fits - thought I was the only one.

I tried to explain it the best was I could in the FAQ. Once someone explained it to me (when I first started playing Stud 8), I never had a problem reading low hands again.

There are two different problems newbies have with the low side: reading the board and comparing two hands.

This may not help in reading the board, but another way to compare two hands is to look at them both as high hands (with the ace as low only). Whichever hand would win in a high hand showdown is the loser for low.

[ QUOTE ]
T_Librarian shows 7,6,4,2,A for low.
YukonGoldy shows 7,5,4,3,A for low.

[/ QUOTE ]
Treat the A as a 1, then write out these sequences as actual numbers:
75,431 is a smaller number than 76,421.
