Default Foxwoods WPF 500NL 77 vs aggressive chip leader

Setup: Foxwoods WPF 500+65 NL Holdem Tournament. About 7 hours in. about 200 left. 100 pay. Blinds 200/400 with 75 ante. I have 8k in chips (M of almost 7).

Hero dealt 7-7 in UTG+1. UTG folds. Hero raises to 2000. All fold to SB who calls. SB is the table chipleader (maybe 20000 in chips) and has been quite agressive since I sat down at this table 15 minutes ago. BB folds.

Flop 448 rainbow.
BB bets out 1500. Hero ??

Let me know your plan for the entire hand. My first thought is that hero raised slightly too much preflop, as it was 5 BBs and 25% of his stack.

Results will come after input. Thanks

yeah, your PF raise is strangely high. Oh well, shove it in now.

yeah, sure is. honestly i have no idea why my raise was so high. looking back through my notes i was shocked to see that raise and have no idea why i decided to go that high.

anyways i shoved and he folded.

if my raise was 3x BB and he called then bet out the same on the flop, i would have shoved anyways. no harm no foul this time i guess.

I agree, your raise is too large for a low/middle pocket pair. If someone comes over the top of you, at best you're coin-flipping, at worst you're dominated.

You have 8K with blinds at 200/400, so you aren't in push or fold mode. Depending on how others have been playing, usually you'll want to limp with this hand and hope to hit a set.

But, with the way this played out, yes, after his bet I push on that flop. He likely puts you on A/x and figures the flop was no help.

I like a raise to 1400 here, as it almost looks like it's inviting a call and to a more sophisticated player will give off the impression that you've got a stronger hand than you do. It also makes it easier to get away from your hand if re-raised; however, with your M, you pretty much have to make a move here on the flop if you're going to accumulate enough chips to survive. I move all-in, as the SB's move looks like a probe bet to me, with something like 4500-4700 in the pot and his smallish bet of 1500; if he calls and has a 4, 8 or overpair, oh well, you had to make a move sometime, and folding right now just puts you in more dire straights.
