Default Betting on the river?

Is there value in not betting the river if you and your opponent know that you have the best hand?

For example should you check when you know he won't call your bet when you have the nuts and he knows it?

Sorry for my english. I nearly failed that in high school.

Cheers
Liam

You can check this river only if you are first to act AND think that your checking may induce a bluff.

I'm glad you brought this up. I've been ruminating on a post about play on the river for awhile. There is always a lot of talk/writing about play on the flop and pre-flop that the turn and river often gets looked over.

If you have the nuts I'd say bet out 80% of the time. You want a call from 2nd best hand. Against an aggressive opponent or someone who bluffs frequently, the only way to win an extra bet on the river may be to check and hope he bets 2nd best hand. I should write more but I'm at work and I'm too tired too think.

I think this sums it up nicely.
