thanks for your insightful post

I found 5/10 6max much more suited to my style of play. I don't really understand how to play ring games anymore after playing lots of shorthanded.

It's a lot of the same, but just sitting around a lot more in EP

5/10 6-max drowns many unsuspecting 3/6 2+2ers.

here's one humongo difference my hourly standard deviation is $160 in $5-10 6MAX and $66 in $3-6 LHE Full.

$5-10 6MAX- more fish, much bigger swings.$3-6 still fishy but swings are a joke compared to $5-10.But of late everyday I play $3-6 I seem to have 40-45 bb swings which is unusual for me but the $3-6 games continue to toughen up so that could be the reason..

Both games are equally good--it's all about game selection.

same can be said for mid-limit short specialists($10-20/$15-30 6MAX) that try to play $15-30 Full.

Care to elaborate? I plan to make the transition from 10/20 6-max to 15/30 full ring in May.

Re: 3/6->5/10 6-max:

First, the aggression level is much higher: their opponents will play back at them frequently and it is tougher to get to showdown w/ unimproved big aces and middle pairs.

Second, Full table players will find themselves in many unfamiliar spots--especially blind steal and defense situations.

Third, Pots are smaller and this requires a lot of adjustment.

I think you are underestimating the skills of a decent $3-6 LHE player..decent being someone making 2.25/2.50 bb/100 or better.$3-6 with it's tight blind structure forces you to play well in the blinds and to steal liberally..if you dont steal in $3-6 chances are you will have difficulty making decent money..there are tons of rocks at this limit who cant play well past the flop thu...they cant lay a hand down or just lack reading skills but the good $3-6 players 3-4 dozen I would guess know that you have to play back every once in a while to mix it up..these players in general are very aggressive.

My guess is the reason the best $3-6 LHE full players dont play higher is that they dont like the swinginess of $5-10 6MAX.The best players making 2.75/+ bb/100 may just be content to grind out good money with small swings.

My goal is to be playing 2000 hands a day of $15-30 full before mid-year...but I said that 6 months ago so I'm a slow study..but I'm in no hurry..I am concerned that by the time I get to that limit the games will be much tougher since all these games eventually will tighten..

I dont have any personal experience moving from a mid limit 6MAX game into $15-30 Full just what I've read in HUSH over last couple years.Traversing casually between LHE Full and LHE 6MAX and vice versa can be dangerous to your BR if you can't wind it down or wind it up ...

Playing 7-8 tables of $3/6 i'd have to say my hourly standard deviation is about the same as your $5/10 std. deviation...I figure the swings will be even greater but probably not something I haven't seen before. Going up or down hundreds of dollars even up to $500 is something i'm getting used to the more I do this. Note that I just consider this normal variance and not even a swing necessarily.
