Party is brilliant
As one who makes a living at online poker, I'm glad the rakeback is gone and all the players who depended on it also gone. Good riddance. Goodbye. Adios. We won't miss you and your little racket.
The sidebet and BJ, as annoying as they are, will draw more fish. In case anyone hasn't noticed there's been an influx of bad players on Party in the past few weeks and now there might be a flood of them. Can't wait for the roulette and craps icons. |

Re: Party is brilliant
Yeah, give me more buttons to lure the fish away from poker and encourage them to give their money directly to Party without me getting any of it.

Re: Party is brilliant
To those saying he is wrong, you don't know what you are talking about. If party starts actively seeking out the gamblers the tables will be looser than ever. Just look at all the poker rooms that were added to pure gambling or sports betting sites and compare the fishiness. Pacific is my favorite place to play because of this even with their 1 table at a time an horrible software.

Re: Party is brilliant
Pacific is thought to have the fishiest games for similar reasons. My initial reaction is that this is will hurt the poker games. All the recreational gamblers that are not all that good will blow thier money at BJ instead of giving it to me. If this Party casino thing works well though, I can see how it could lead to more poor players though. So there is an argument to be made for this point. For the time being though, I'm thinking this will just allow poor players to loose thier money faster playing these side bets. In the long run, if the casino aspect attracts more "-EV and don't care" gambler types, you are probably right.

Re: Party is brilliant
Some of the BJ players (and flop side-bet players) will get lucky sometimes and make a little profit.
They'll get cocky and then take it to the poker-tables and play above the limit they might normally play. "I've won big at the side-bet thing. Let's try to double-up again at 15/30." (something like that anyway). I think we see players like this all the time at Pacific...as well as at sports-betting sites like Bodog (not sure about Paradise). I would play on Bodog with some guy who would brag about having won '2 dimes' on Duke or Syracuse or whoever....then play like an idiot at the poker-table...and then say he was off to go bet another basketball game and would bring it back to the poker-table after the game. Obviously if he loses the sports-bet then his chances of retruning to play poker are not very high. But when guys like this win they sometimes will tend to play like maniacs. I'm not convinced that the BJ tables on party (nor the side-bet) are bad things. I don't know if they'll be as good as I'm hoping either (there is concern that the fish will just bust-out faster of course). I really don't know either way but can see some possibilities. There are plenty of crappy EV games and sports-betting opportunities in live casinos too...and it doesn't seem like it's TOO detrimental for live poker. (then again, California poker....without as many other gambling options...is known to be VERY loose...while Vegas poker might be a little bit tighter) |
