I've thought about this game a bit, I wonder if it's just to close in skill level that you could not get sufficient edge to beat the rake. But I think if you play against chinese people they'll be superstitious and play badly enough to take advantage.

The game has a very high luck factor unless you have at least one total idiot in the game. There isn't much skill beyond a few basic strategies really, and almost all decisions are either pretty straightforward or they are close enough that it doesn't matter that much either way.

You are SOOOOOOO wrong. Chinese Poker is a game of great variance, but I generally demolish my opponents if given enough time.

(I only play for between 1 to 5 buckes per point because my roll isn't big enough to blay in the bigger games)

Please elaborate why you are such a stud at Chinese Poker. If everyone is playing competently, where does your edge come from?

$20 a point is a big game???

I'm no stud in CP, I have an extra edge over my opponents because they think its all luck, and I know its not. Get Don Somolen's book & simulator, you will see what I'm talking about - its all you need.

$20 a point is a big game (not huge, but big) if bonuses are played, or if its only played for a short time frame. I've played online for $1 a point, and when I run bad my roll disappears super fast, faster than any other game I have played. Conversely big wins mop up the floor. But in the long run its all about getting many smaller wins, thats the secret to CP success.

You would be amazed at how many people just make the best hand possible for the bottom, then the best hand possible for the middle, then the best top.

I have Smolen's book and software. Its good. I guess that's what I mean about playing competently.

I just play at the beach against guys who really don't know what they are doing.

Where can you play online?

I'm pretty sure Pokerroom has a seperate Chinese poker client. As far as I know, that's the only place online.

I'm curious, for those of you who have used the Smolen book and simulator, how long it took you to feel competent in the game? There are a bank of asian casino employees in my area that rent a few hotel rooms once a month and play CP for decent stakes. They are all psycho-lAG supersituous pai gow playing type gamblers and I'm sure the game must be good. I just don't want to go in to a situation like before I'm ready.

About 1 month. Its semi-easy to memorize the tables. Before I play I give myself a refresher course.

Has anyone figured out the WP numbers when playing 2-7 in the middle?

It was in the middle of the night on a non-busy day and all the players were regulars, so they actually let us play rake free which was really nice of them. We tipped the dealers very generously.
