Hmmmm...you short Party's stock and the next day the servers go down amid rumors of DDOS attacks. I think we've found our culprit.

LOL. I'm afraid not. My short was based on their pure, sustained incompetence over several months. Especially their recent moves to alienate players. And the ridicoulously highly priced and faltering stock price.

I think your timing is ok but you may have to see it run up 30-50 bucks

[/ QUOTE ]

I found this stock on marketwatch using the symbol UK:PRTY. It's quoted at GBX160. Looking that up, GBX stands for pence sterling. 100 pence to an English pound makes it about 1.6 pounds or around $2.70 USD per share. It'd be a he11 of a run if it went up 50 or 60 bucks, unless you're talking pence.

I'm pretty sure US citizens can't invest in PP

Well then short it and get a purple heart for doing so...

In order to short a stock, you must at some point own it. Traders call this "the borrow" (i.e., where you have borrowed the share from somebody in order to sell it into the market). Thus, you would have owned a share in an illegal enterprise.

Casino gambling is illegal in most States in the US yet we are all free to own their stocks. Your understanding of the law is flawed. As long as their product is legal in their own jurisdiction you have no problem owning the stock.

IB is a division of Timber Hill, the market making side. they're good. highly competitive. great rates, probably access every market on the planet. I think they might have some modest volume requirements to get the best rates. (they suck to work for, on the other hand, unless you are a Hungarian mathematician.)

Were Put options not available?

I don't like shorting bubble stocks since even if I'm right I could get raped in the short-term.

Well, if you're shorting the stock... you're not really investing in it.

I'd be surprised if our law is fine-grained enough to make this distinction, though.
