I'd classify the semi rich as around $200,000/year. And the fully rich $1 million/year.

I have never considered myself or my family to be rich (when I was growing up, my sister and I qualified for the reduced price lunches at school), yet I am a conservative.

[/ QUOTE ]

Proof that the right wing propaganda is working.

So, at what household income would you define as "rich"?

[/ QUOTE ]

Income is not nearly as important as net worth when trying to classify "the rich".

That, without a doubt, is one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever read.

Why?

Doesn't the poster realize that if conservatives had their way, there would be no "reduced-price" lunches? I mean the government subsidizing school lunches??? What a wacky liberal idea!

Or do you think the the poster is "conservative" in the true sense of the word? ie. I got mine, I got ahead by taking advantage and sucking from the public tit, now I am going to do everything to make sure no one else gets ahead?

Instead of going to a public school and eating a reduced price lunch, that true conservative should be working some child-labor job for less than minimum wage (minimum wage? what another wacky liberal idea) and attempting to "pull himself up by the bootstraps". Yeah, that's the ticket. And trying to dodge all the other conservative attempts to keep the boot on his head and keep him in his place....

Obviously, he is either not thankful for the advantages those "liberal" policies gave him, or he is deluded into the propaganda of the right wing. I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt. I guess that genorosity is just the "liberal" in me.

You realize you're setting yourself up for a haughty 'our family qualified for reduced-price lunches but didn't get them' post, right?

I'll avoid the Conservative or Liberal label and simply look at Republicans and Democrats. A major shift has occured in the past twenty-five or so years. The strongholds of the Democratic base have shifted from more rural areas into the larger cities, once the stongholds of the Republican party. Part of this change has been the result of the growing influence of the born again Christian movement and the direct appeal to this demographic on the part of the Republicans. In other words, a town of 30K in TN would certainly be part of that Republican stronghold (not surprising that Gore could not carry hus home state, then).

I should probably clairify -

that thought I had was the only people who I know for sure who ARE anti-union are rich people - some poor people too, but without a doubt the rich people -

and I'll side with these assessments of rich - $400000 and up...certainly not 110K - I made that much one year myself, and I was nowhere near rich.

Sure, but the OP is soooooo misguided.
First, he tries to judge wealth based on annual income.
Then, his income scale tops out at 110k.

Instead of proclaiming himself a conservative, he should buy a clue.

CC, if I have to come see you in order to "buy a clue", then I guess I will just remain clueless.

The only reason I put in the part about reduced lunches in the OP was to point out that my parents have never made (or had) a lot of money. However, I was taught from an early age that if I wanted something I had to work for it, not sit around and wait for the gov't to create a program that would give it to me. I worked on our farm from the time I was old enough to be of help until I started college. I had a part-time job when I was 15. I know the value of a dollar, because I have busted my ass for everything I have.
