20/40 FW: Dancing Through Bullets
wild 20/40 game at foxwoods on saturday night. most flops are getting 5-7 callers, sometimes for one bet, sometimes a raised pot, sometimes capped. it wasn't remotely rare for the turn to be called cold 3-4 ways. the cards are getting washed every half dozen hands.
i get red jacks on the button with ~4 limpers before me. i just call. i understand the idea of value raising pre-flop but the way the game was going i felt there was more value in deception. flop comes 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] EP bets, three callers to me, i raise. at least one blind calls. ~6 to the flop. turn is 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] checked to me. i check. river is 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] checked to me. i bet. comments on all streets appreciated. edit: i had the cards wrong in original. |

Re: 20/40 FW: Dancing Through Bullets
Almost a Dynasty special...raise preflop, bet the turn, the river is fine.
Deception is useless with JJ against donkeys. |

Re: 20/40 FW: Dancing Through Bullets
in a game where 4 players limp in, deception is useless. raise for value. you gave up alot of money by not raising this preflop. maybe as much as $30.

Raise preflop. Bet the turn.
Well, at least you bet the river -ActionBob |

Re: 20/40 FW: Dancing Through Bullets
1) Not raising preflop is terrible. Not only do you lose value, but you let the SB and BB in cheaply against a vulnerable hand. And ss others have mentioned, deception is useless against idiots.
2) Checking the turn was terrible. You have no reason to believe that you are behind. You absolutely must protect your hand against the Ax and Kx that these idiots are probably playing. |

You might be able to make this argument with 2 players limping in, your in the SB with a BB that always plays and the players are tough. And I thinly stress might. i felt there was more value in deception I should dig up the post were Mason set me straight on this one. to summarize: Hi Slavic- Against players who play to loose and go to far with their hands, deception is wasted. Thanks, Mason turn is 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] checked to me. i check. You have to bet this. You can not let people draw for free to the 4th [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. They will pay to draw to it, some even dead to your J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Worse yet you can't let an offsuit A K or Q have a free draw. In general in this style of game you could drop all the fancy stuff, play ABC poker and make a killing. Yes the good players in the game will avoid you but the bad players make up for it 10 fold. |
