Default Spot My Mistake?

27 people NL HE tourney. $100 each. 1st is $1000, 2nd $700, 3rd $500.

3 players left, I am on the button with QTo. I have 24,000, SB has 28,000, BB has 29,000.

Blinds are 4k, 2k.

I raised to 10,000, after standard deliberation, SB pushes all in. BB folds.

I was pretty sure that the SB had a medium sized pair or AK. I would have been shocked to see AA, KK or even QQ. I read him for specifically JJ down to about 55 or AK. NOT AQ. I had been playing with him for about 5 hours and felt my read was good.

I called.

What I'd like to know is, what is the best way to play this hand in this situation?

Thank you,

soda

Your mistake was raising to 10k. My guidemark is, if you have to raise over 35% of your stack, you are better of raising all-in.

What?

You think I should fold that hand under the circumstances? I'm not a mind reader... why do you think I was stoned?

I have to agree with Morbo...If your raise commits you to the pot, you should go ahead and push. Your read on the other player is really meaningless at this point, because I can't see you folding here.

As far as your being "stoned"...I think pushing with QTo is fine when 3-handed and your stack is < 6xBB.

Default Call, Push, or Fold

I agree raising puts too much of your stack at risk.
Call, depending on how table is playing.
Push all-in and take your chances.
Fold, and let the blinds fight it out!
With the blinds this high the best option is to play "Let's Make a Deal".

Default Results

I called, he had 88. It held up.

I'll be pushing the whole stack in up front next time.

Thank you,

you need to think before you raise in the future. If you are going to call after you raise to 10000 with a hand like kthat , it's very important that you just go all in from the start. There is no reason that you should except that you will be short stackedc, so the call isn't even that bad, the point is that if you know you are going to call ahead of time, you should be going all in, or making an even bigger raise os it's clear there is no way you will fold, like 15000 or something. All-in was the right play if you were going to raise.

I think raising 10k is about the worst option. 3 handed, I don't mind a call or a push here.
I would lean towards calling. You have position, and if someone plays back at you preflop you can easily let it go. Depending on how aggressive the table is, I would call or push. If they are aggressive, I would push, if they were passive I would call.

I think you should have been trying to make a deal, though. The blinds are huge and any skill advantage you might have had is for all intents and purposes gone.

By the way, why don't you think he would have pushed w/ AA or KK. Doesn't he know that you are pot committed. I would have pushed w/ those there.
