Default A strange hand.... (NC)

Opponent is a strong, if tight, player with stats of 13/6 over 250 hands.

Cryptologic 1.00/2.00 Hold'em (10 handed) link

Preflop: Hero is Button with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
5 folds, MP3 calls, 1 folds, Hero raises, 2 folds, MP3 calls.

Flop: (5.50 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP3 folds.

Final Pot: 2.75 BB.

After the fold, I naturally thank him and ask why he folded.

He says "because I couldn't call your bet"

I say "oh i was going to check"-

He replies "no you weren't.. unless PT is lying to me"

He's right and wrong. Right, you were going to make a continuation bet. Wrong, he should never check out of a hand no matter what.

Put *NC* in the title.

You said you were going to check?

I would bet the flop if checked too. We raised PF, there's a king, he's tight, and him folding is our best chance to take this pot. We're beat by hands like 77 and 88 and we need to give them the chance to fold against this scary flop. 5 sb's, 1 bet to win it.

Who said I was telling the truth? I'm a bad man. Actually, I was going to bet if checked, and fold if he bet.

Okay good

In that case, I think your lie sucks! You should reinforce his poor plays, not correct them! Tell him "well yeah I was going to bet, I had KQ" or something like that.

Well it was not unreasonable for him to expect a continuation bet from you on that flop.

A bet when checked to on a flop that you could very easily have hit (after a preflop raise) will often win the pot HU.

It does make you wonder what his hand was though, as he seems to have totally missed that flop. Perhaps he had an underpair such as 77 or 88, and felt that it was just too likely that he was up against a higher pair.

When he was talking about PT, he probably meant that he thought that you were a tight agressive player, who wouldnt raise preflop without a decent hand (and someone who doesnt play passively).
