But Big-L is a comedy. That's how it was advertised in reviews when it came out. I don't know how you limit this, unless you just go with straight up "slapstick" comedy's.

Bill Murray (I think every movie of his is a comedy, prove me wrong)

I don't think Lost in Translation is a comedy. I think it had funny elements but not a comedy.

Good call, let me try again,

I think every movie of his is a comedy, or really really REALLY bad.

since tenenbaum's wasn't bad, it was a comedy, thats my equation.

But seriously, you can't not include "cross genre" movies, because every movie could fall under mutliple catagories, my new challenge is for someone to name a movie that is only comedy and has no content that is not commical

Ace venture, for instance, was a mystery as well as a comedy.

Gotta agree that lost in translation was terrible.

In what way is the Hudsucker Proxy not a comedy? It's entirely ridiculous at every step of the way.

I don't see how the quality of Lebowski exempts it from being DQ'd. It's precisely the type of movie we should not be including in the poll. It's so good on so many levels, but it's not a true comedy.

[/ QUOTE ]

isn't a 'true comedy' supposed to end in a wedding... i remember reading that in lit class or something. anyway, in that case, few modern movies are "true" comedies

big daddy[and billy madsen? and gilmore?], robin hood men in tights is all i can come up with off the top of my head.

I think the following are definitely more comedy than anything else:

Dazed & Confused
Sideways
The Hudsucker Proxy
The Royal Tennenbaums
Being John Malkovich

How are these films not comedies? Just because they are more highbrow than Airplane doesn't make them dramas. And black comedy is comedy.

What poll would they go in otherwise? These films are certainly better than the majority of the 140ish you have in your list; it would be a shame if they are left out.

Just so you know, the Royal Tennenbaums is a comedy.
