Default Getting my 2nd 2001FP, what do I need to set it up?

Already got one and the 2nd is on the way. Will I have to buy anything special to hook up the 2nd monitor? I have never ran 2 monitors at the same time before.

Thanks.

Does your video card have two outputs? If not, you'll need one that does. I recommend getting one with dual DVI ports; LCDs look much better on DVI. I have a XFX Geforce 6600GT, which cost about $225(AGP version). Unless your computer is very new and has PCI-Express, you need an AGP video card.

Your other option is to buy a cheapo PCI video card and just run two video cards.

However if your original video card is kinda old and sucking, you're better off just upgrading to a newer video card with two outputs.

A follow up: I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 AGP (0x4E50).

Will this allow me to have two 2001FP's running nicely, in addition to my laptop display. I'd like to add a 2nd external display, but I'm dumb about what's needed and what allows you to do what. I have an Inspiron 9200.

Thanks
G

If you're doing it on a laptop, you'll need a PCMCIA video card. They tend to not be very cheap...here is one that doesn't look bad:

VTBook

Or if you don't mind spending money, here's one where you can do more than 2 external monitors on a laptop:

SideCar

Depending on the notebook you can usually get duel monitor support through a docking system. Most of the Dell's follow this model, and the ATI software they use is quite nice.

Just wondering....why didn't you ask this question before you spent $500?

Take a look at this picture.

As long as you have 1 each of the blue (analog) or white (DVI) connector, or 2 of the white you can hook up both monitors to your video card.

It is for a 2nd computer later but for now I thought I might set it up on my current computer just for kicks.

Thanks for the help. I don't have both of those plugs, my computer is a couple years old so I guess I will need a new video card first...
