Party Jackpot -EV at 2+2 Tables
I finally got to play on three tables, but I left to play real poker after only one hour.
Even though players were checking down to the river, during the last half hour they started calling preflop with non-jackpot hands like AK and AQ and pocket pairs smaller than eights. I guess they were figuring that because they were checking it all the way down, they were being fair, but they were not. There's no way I'm going to be calling preflop regularly with trash like 36s for a longshot at this jackpot when people are entering the pot with powerful hands. If you're gonna have a system, you need to stick to it and allow the blinds and the people who are calling with trash to recover some of their money. Fortunately I left up about $50, but others said in chat they were down... Anyway, to end my little mini-rant, as someone else said, you could probably do better at the non 2+2 tables... Re: Party Jackpot -EV at 2+2 Tables
I agree with you of course (as indicated in previous posts).
but even AQo has JP potential if the board goes QQQ99 or even AAA99. Both of your cards would play on this board. Whether or not that means you should be playing them at the JP tables I'm not sure. Obviously small-pairs shouldn't be played if it's a check-it-down agreement. |

Ah, my bad! I forgot about those ultra-ultra longshot boards like QQQ99.

Re: Party Jackpot -EV at 2+2 Tables
comparing your example of 36s its not any more long shot than 4h 5h 7h 99
The only bonus is you can switch the 7h with 2h, which only increases your odds barely. But you can also switch the Qs with As, so its even. |

im also not sure how i feel about players who play 22-77. while its slightly +ev vs 67 and the likes, it is mega -ev vs 88 and up. if anyone can offer anything more specific than that, id be greatful

Re: Party Jackpot -EV at 2+2 Tables
Playing the 2p2 tables is surely -EV compared to a normal JP table even if everyone plays fair. What do you think is the per-hand value gained from the JP? And that value on a normal JP table? You are gaining fractions of a cent in exchange for playing against poorer opposition.
However, it is probably kinda fun. |

Re: Party Jackpot -EV at 2+2 Tables
Yes... the whole thing is an incredible longshot to get the jackpot.
I was just talking about the odds of winning the actual game pot. AQ will take the pot more often than 36s. So if some poor sap gets stuck playing the low suited cards and someone else gets a good run of high cards, it's a losing proposition for the sap to stay in the game, especially if he's expected not to raise the few times he gets pocket kings or AKs... I'm sure you get my drift. |

Re: Party Jackpot -EV at 2+2 Tables
i think 2p2 tables are about as close to neutral ev as you can get, assuming no rake and no betting on any streets, as long as everyone plays the same cards. If they play AK/AQ, you should too, i know i did. Just because someone is on a "run of high cards" doesnt mean it suddenly becomes -ev. Thats what varience is, runs of high and low cards.
