Death.

Depends on what you like though. I'm personally a fan of Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Panic, Evangelion, Rahxephon, Gantz, Fruits Basket, Samurai Champloo (which is unfortunately being shown on Cartoon Network), Mahoromatic, Noir, Chrono Crusade, Wolf's Rain, Stratos 4, Kiddy Grade, and a few other shows that I can't remember.

Yes, I've seen quite a bit. I've got a friend with roughly $6,000 worth of anime in his room.

mononoke is madeby Hayao Miyazaki. He is pretty much the
Japanese equivalent of Walt Disney. Very wide audience appeal.
His work is now being distributed in the US by Disney.

spirited away
Nausica valley of the wind
laputa castle in the sky
kiki's delivery service
howl's castle
porco rosso

listed them in order of my personal preference. you can't

There's a huge variety - I agree with the poster that suggested you stick to Miyazaki titles for now. If you liked Mononoke, you'll like his other works. Depending on what type of animation you like, there will be lots of good-to-decent titles. (For example, sci-fi, action, cutesy stuff, creepy stuff, porn, etc.)
