Wierd tourny...

So I played in a rebuy tournament today for the first time. It was a 5+1, 250 guaronteed with 18 players. It was also a turbo tournament. Rebuys were raked.

I got lucky and was large stacked when it counted. But the funny thing was the blinds were so huge that there were only 3 players left at the end of the add on period. I can't remember what the structure was but I came in second for 135. Tourny paid only 3 spots.

So my questions are, it seems like it might be possible to just keep rebuying until the rebuy period ends and then your in the money. Would this work?

If more people made it through the first hour would more people have been paid? The structure wasn't announced until the end of the first hour (only 3 people left at that point).

I didn't know it was a rebuy tournament until after I signed up.
