Gimme a line to replace this atrocious play
Just when I thought I was pulling it together and playing pretty well, I do something so dumb. Villain is 6/3 with no postflop agression after 65 hands. Haven't seen him show down any hands.
Party Poker (10 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 8 folds. Flop: 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) . Turn: 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) . River: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Button calls 109.25 (All-In). Final Pot: I bet half the pot on the turn because I didn't want to get it all in on the river. But then on the river the pot is $97 and he only had $65 or so. I tried betting $30 as a blocking bet but then had tremendous odds on his raise, which could have been from a PP lower than kings very rarely, but still often enough to make the call profitable. The turn action is really important, and I'm not sure what to do there. Please help. |

pushing preflop usually works. Barring that please correct your post.

Re: Gimme a line to replace this atrocious play
raise more pre-flop, at the very least to $12, this allows you to get more in post-flop without feeling bad

Re: Gimme a line to replace this atrocious play
Make it $14 to go pre-flop.
If he calls, do you have a hand range? With villain at 6/3 it's probably AA KK QQ. After he calls the flop I may slow down. The turn bet is akward and I dunno what it really accomplishes. If you think he has AA then fold and have some conviction with your read. Otherwise, pot the turn and get the rest in on the river. Guess he showed you 10 10? |

Re: Gimme a line to replace this atrocious play
I actually made it $10 preflop, converter messed up. I agree $12 would be better, but at $14, I think only hands that beat me would call. $14 really telegraphs my hand, making AK and if he is really tight, QQ fold. By betting $14 it seems I would get the least value when I'm ahead but lose more when I'm behind.

Re: Gimme a line to replace this atrocious play
don't reraise preflop if you are just going to make a crappy minraise....and yes...raising by 5 is as bad as just minraising. If you flat call you at least have some deception value. I would make it around 12-15 to go here....i'm ok with announcing I have a good hand here because he likes his hand too and I want him to pay to suckout.

Re: Gimme a line to replace this atrocious play
I would like a turn checkraise here had you made a proper raise preflop. You can't do it here because you didn't weed out random suited trash that might be drawing at a flush. But if the guy likes to call flop bets and then bet the turn if you check with AK or whatever then this is a good spot to punish him for it. Check/call river or block/fold. Calling the river push is spewing IMO, despite the good pot odds you're getting.
