no, I think that better players than me must certainly be professionals. I wouldn't imagine a "recreational" player that would play better than me. And a professional does not like to play against other professionals (regardless if he's better than them or not). The same way I don't like when I see a table at 5/10 full of regulars (wich I know I can beat) but wich are all winners themselves, so when I play a table with 7 regulars and 2 fish, I win much less, cause I got to split the profit with the others. So even If I take the biggest chunk of the profit, why not move to another table full of fish (even if you have to drop stakes)?

I bet Party/Prima had better 10/20NL games than that one at the time, so they could just play there. It's clearly a better option for most of them.

Of course, they may have been playing for fun/challenge/learning experience (wich is what I first thought they were doing).

Wtf is a professional?

I'm sick of everyone talking about "going pro" or who the poker "professionals" are.

"Professional" literally means someone who is paid. Even if poker is your only source of income, no one is actually paying you to play poker. Any random dork can play 1/2 no limit all day and call themself a pro.

Imo, the only people who can reasonably be called "pros" are players with major poker endorsements.

I'm sure there are lots of "recreational" players much better than you.

Main Entry: pro·fes·sion·al
Pronunciation: pr&-'fesh-n&l, -'fe-sh&-n&l
Function: adjective

2 a : participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs <a professional golfer>

That having been said, I agree with your general point (i.e. there are a ton of "recreational" players, El Diablo being one of them, who are far better than the poster).

a.) they're not all the same skill

b.) maybe they're not jsut playing for ev, but also to get better, ever think of that? I play a home game where all 5 of us play for a living, I don't care if I win or lose in that game, I just try to get better, and if I lose I look at it as a "learning expense"

SO STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHO ARE WAY!!!!!!!!! BETTER THAN YOU HOW TO PLAY OR JUDGE THEM ON WHERE THEY PLAY, THEY'RE BETTER THAN YOU FOR A REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!
