Default Avert your eyes

I'm going to piecemeal this one. Let me know what you'd do on the flop. Then I'll give you rest of the info. I REALLY blundered on this hand and I'm hoping this post is a tad cathartic. Read on. The brutal part is the reads. Both guys are donkeys and yet I end up leading the wagon train to destruction. Go!

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter

Hero ($83.7)
CO ($24)
Button ($55.62)
SB ($38.15)
BB ($66.35)
UTG ($36.28)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG calls $0.50, Hero raises to $2.5, 3 folds, BB calls $2, UTG raises to $6, Hero calls $3.50, BB calls $3.50.

Flop: ($18.25) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG bets $5

Action's on you.

I hate that flop. UTG can have AA, AJS, QKs, TT or whatever if he is a doneky. Against one player I would take my chances and raise him all-in (hoping he has AK). The problem is UTG 2. Can he have a straight? QKs is a nice limping hand for a donkey.

pot-size raise?

Make it $20 or $25 to go.

Okay, I'm guessing the pot sized raise is going to be the general consensus. So, I'll move forward.

I raise to $30 which is like 2 bucks more than potsized. The BB checkraises all in for $60 more and UTG calls his last $25. So the pot is now around $135 and it costs you around $30 to call. Pot's giving you about 4.5:1.

Crying call?

I call. You're not drawing dead to KQ. You're almost drawing dead to AA (unless you hit the last Jack). I don't think you can drop this unless you're absolutely sure someone has AA.

I don't think you made a single blunder on this hand (assuming you made the crying call). If you flop a set with JJ and lose, it's going to cost you a pile of chips, there is no way around it. If you had said that UTG is very tight, such that you can confidantly put him on AA or KK for his preflop limp-reraise then fold preflop. Against a donkey, play it just the way you did.

For the record, yes, make the crying call. You have odds to fill up and I still don't believe UTG has AA. If he had been the one to check-raise, I would be a little more inclined to fold, but with his $5 bet into an $18 pot, I am unconvinced. I do expect to see BB with KQ for the straight, but you have odds to try for your full house.

I thought about just letting this post drop, but in the interest of full disclosure I folded. I couldn't think of any hand UTG could have besides AA and call all that action. I figured his $5 was a weak lead and so I laid down my '1 outer'.

The turn and river bricked and the BB picked it up with AQ and UTG mucked KK. Awful.

But man, I do love Party Poker.
