Default Where to give up?

I hate the way I played this. I continuation bet the turn hoping to fold out a hand like AJ or a PP who beleived I held AK. The UTG Villian was ok, nothing extraordinary, but not a total retard like some of the opponents I play against.

What do I do differently?

hey guys,

i'm still new to 6-max, only like 9k hands so far. one quick question.

is this a standard 3-bet preflop? i think i'd flat call there.

after preflop, i guess the flop and turn are standard? river check/fold looks about right as hero can't beat much.

yeah?

I fold preflop to a UTG raise when I am in the small blind with ATo. But the way you played it I don't mind the turn continuation bet as it is the only way you can probably pick up the pot. On the river there is nothing that a decent UTG player will raise with UTG and call the turn that you beat so I definitely check/fold.

Yes, definately ATo is a trouble hand against an UTG raise.
Is there a blind structure where it's still worthwile to call from the SB?

PF I fold this with your 2/5 blinds unless UTG is really laggy or stupid. UTG raising standards are different than steal standards so ATo doesn't play that great here.

You need to bet this river. Big pot and you will have a chance to fold hands like AQ, AJ, AT, which have the A, J, or T of spades.

Agree with the river bet, but the turn is spewing IMO.

unless the UTG raiser is a maniac, 3 betting pre flop is spewing.

so we like folding preflop? I don't like cold calling here because then I essentially must hit my ace to win the pot.

I don't really have much showdown value by the turn, so betting seems easy because I don't mind getting raised in the slightest, and I think that a large number of players fold hands that don't beat AK here. In fact, I'm probably less likely to bet a hand slightly stronger than A10 because in this case, I DON'T want to be raised because I want to showdown my hand.

BTW, in the actual hand, villian checked behind river and picked up pot w/ 66.

I will 3-bet this often. If I know UTG is a solid TAG I will fold.
