Unlike Clinton after Waco, who pushed it off on Janet Reno.
Kudos to Bush. |

Re: Bush takes some responsiblity for federal mistakes
[ QUOTE ]
Kudos to Bush. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, thank you for massively screwing up a federal relief effort which resulted in the deaths of hundreds. However, I do say kudos to him for bringing several more Congressional races into play for November 2006. |

Re: Bush takes some responsiblity for federal mistakes
sweet, it only took 1 post for a conservative to blame clinton for a completely unrelated incident. nothing like a complete unwillingness to admit to an obvious mistake...

[ QUOTE ] Kudos to Bush. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, thank you for massively screwing up a federal relief effort which resulted in the deaths of hundreds. [/ QUOTE ] The failures of the state and local officials caused most of any "extra" fatalities that the hurricane itself did not cause. The effect of the delays of the feds was minor in comparison, mostly inconvenience to people who rightly became impatient and frustrated by the waiting. When will the people who really failed in this effort, accept responsibility for their failure? Governor? Mayor? We are waiting for your mea culpas. |

Re: Bush takes some responsiblity for federal mistakes
Ok, not getting much thought on this topic which is probably my fault for just providing a link.
What I was looking for is some thought on what people make of this move. To my knowledge this is the first time in 5 years that Bush has taken responsibility for anything. Was it last year that the reporter asked him if he regretted anything he'd done while in office and he couldn't come up with one thing? So why this now? Do you think the fact his approval numbers are about the same percent as hitting your flush on the river has anything to do with this move? Further, for the liberals, what do you think of this move? What additional steps does he need to take to please you (if he ever could)? Republicans: What's your take on this? Are you angered at all that he is doing this when for so long he's been the unapologetic cowboy prez? |

Re: Bush takes some responsiblity for federal mistakes
I'll agree that the governor made some mistakes and needs to fess up, but read this week's Newsweek (maybe Time? - can't remember) article which describes the interactions of the prez, gov and mayor on Air Force 1. The mayor basically screamed at the other two to get off their a**es and do something. The gov also asked for a state of emergency declared on Aug 26, several days before the feds got involved.
