Default Blackhawk, CO: Golden Gates Poker Room?

Hey any of you Denver boys:

I'm going up the hill next weekend and was wondering if that new Golden Gates poker room was open yet? And is it part of Mardi Gras, or a seperate place. Also, does anyone have tournies besides the CCS and Gilpin? Thanks.

Golden Gates is not open yet. I've heard "this fall", but it's mid October already.

CCS, Gilpin, Mountain High and Fortune Valley all have tourneys. Gilpin has tourneys all weekend. Check with the others if they have any - I don't think there are many tourneys at the others on weekends.

I got the skinny on the Sat. tournaments for you.

Noon - Mountain High - $60 buy in. This is the one I play. Made the money but not a win.

Noon - Gilpin - $24
1pm - Colorado Station - $40
3pm - Gilpin - $70
7pm - Gilpin - $250
10pm - Gilpin - $30

Most of these are small(40ish players) but popular. They fill up so get your seat early.

If you go down pm me. I will be there Fri. and Sat. Had a bad weekend but still up. Second time I played tired. -EV for sure.

All of a sudden, people are coming out of the woodwork. Where were you fools a week ago Friday when Joe Tall was in town and we could've had a 2+2 donkfest?

The Gilpin and CCS are the two places to look for tournaments. The Gilpin is definitely the place with the widest variety. If you're looking for the best structure, it's going to be in the big Saturday and Sunday tournaments at The Gilpin and CCS. Standard $50-$70 Gilpin tournaments usually have t1500 starting stacks with blinds starting at 25/50 and rules varying from there depending on the tournament. The $250 Big Boys tournament starts with t4000. I don't know the structure on their new $100 tournaments, but I see they've added a $100 with 2 $100 rebuys on saturday nights (as opposed to the $100 freezeout on wednesdays). I personally really like the Psycho 50 tournament at The Gilpin. There ends up being a lot of chips in play and there are a lot of fools padding the prize pool with a bunch of foolish rebuys. The last one I bubbled out of (on Joe Tall night) had a first prize of $2500 - not bad for a $50 tournament.

If you play CCS's Sunday tournament, plan on it being $315. CCS lets you buy rebuys for their tournaments beforehand and then you get 1.5x the chips as if you buy during the tournament. What's more, you can get the chips after the first hand, regardless of your stack, so it really amounts to just getting more chips for a bigger buy-in, as opposed to a real rebuy tournament. For instance, if you play their big tournament on sundays, it's $115 plus two $100 rebuys. You get t2000 chips, but when you take the two rebuys before the tournament, you're effectively in a $315 tournament with t8000 starting chips. They do run satellites into this tournament for something like $35.

I haven't played any of Mountain High's tournaments, because none of them ever interested me. I haven't heard anything good about them and I think they start a bit earlier on the weekdays, so they're tough to get to on time.

As for Mountain High they have a tournament every day at noon, weekdays and weekends. $40 gets you 1200 chips, 15 minute blinds starting at 25/50. $15 more gets you another 500 chips. They cap it at 44 people, and pay top six. As you can imagine it becomes an all-in fest pretty early, but the casino doesn't take any money from the tourney which explains why they want it done and over with quick.

Mountain High also has two nightly tournaments, on Monday and Wednesday night at 7pm. These cost a little bit more (I can't remember exactly), but the blind structure and starting chip stacks make for less of a all-in fest.

The one notable thing about all of Mountain High's tourneys is that the winner of each tournament qualifies for the Tournament of Champions, which is held at the end of each month. $5 from every normal tournament entry goes directly into the pot of this TOC, which has a more reasonable blind structure and chip stack.

Yes. But that was my fault for not being able to pair the board.

Hey some of us are in Grand Junction, (talk slow to us). Seriously though, thanks for the info Patrick and Scott. I couldn't find much on the web since that Mountain High website has been, "coming soon" for like 2 years now. One more question: no tournies at the Lodge? Looks like a nice place.
