Default I hate myself for folding pocket Aces here.

Motorcity casino poker room. 9 handed.

I sat down at 6:10 P.M. and decided I would stay for 6 hours. This is my last hand of the evening. I am UTG and the time is 12:08 P.M. Perfect timing. I am up $330 (33 BB's) and I get dealt A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] for my last hurrah. I have totally owned the table this whole night and I have the largest stack at table.

A.C. raises UTG, UTG+1 calls (a conservative old lady who is quite decent postflop and knows when shes beat), folded to a MP player who calls (a guy who is literally playing any two, I've seen 92o, J3o, 82o, all manner of garbage. The disturbing thing is that he looks like he graduated from MIT, he is quite good postflop and like the old lady, knows when he is beat.) folded to BB who calls.

4 players
to FLOP : 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

A.C. bets, old lady calls, "Any two will do" calls, BB folds.

3 players
To the TURN: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

A.C. bets, Old lady calls, "any two" raises.......

Now I fold! Yes, very weak, I know. I was thinking well, I've got $305 left and I would really like to write in my records a $300+ session instead of like $280 or $275 or whatever. So that's why I folded. I convinced myself he hit a flush and I folded so I could put a nice positive round number in my record books.

His raise was strange, because although he was playing any two, I never saw him raise without a strong holding. Old lady calls.

River is a blank. old lady checks, "any two" bets, old lady calls. Old lady shows 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and "any two" shows A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] for top pair and he drags the pot.

Arrrggghhh

This was the only time of the night I layed down the best hand post flop! How could I have been so weak!? The whole car ride home, all night, and still, this morning I can't stop thinking about it. Never again will I suspect the worst in a large pot! I had pot odds to call Godammit. Pot odds!!!!

This sucks. At the very least call down. It's all one session. You cannot make weak folds because you want to write pretty numbers in a book. If you keep playing this way those numbers are gonna get smaller and smaller, methinks.

I know. If it had not been my 'last' hand of the night I would have called the turn raise and then check called the river.

Based on this statement, the fold isn't that bad. I've made worse.

i think i call it down, b/c of the junk that these guys would often show. but i wouldn't be very happy, either way.

that being said, i both empathize and hate the "last hand of the night" mentality. although you (and i, and everyone else) know it makes no sense, it's hard to escape.

I have gotten caught up in the "last orbit" "last hand" way of thinking before as well. I don't think you should beat yourself up over this one. You had a read and you trusted it. On the other hand your saving two BBs cost you a decent pot...and this pot is a lot to make up. Remember the callers will often put you on AK when you raise or whatever is convenient for them to continue...

Nice profit on the night though. Keep it up.

Just think "Wow, it'd be nice to finish with a 400$ night." Or however much that pot would put you at.

I think alot of players have trouble with that "last orbit" syndrome. My way of fighting it is to not count how much I'm up/down as I know I'm nearing the end.
