Default Re: limit to start bonus whoring

I'll probably get flamed for this, but, I think a 300 BB bankroll *can be* excessive for many limit players. Yes, if you are playing at a certain level and are not willing to drop back down should you go on a downswing, then you should have a 300BB bankroll to protect you. But, if you can drop a limit or two when you hit a downswing(+100BB, which happens to most of us at some time), then you probably could get by with a 200BB roll. Let's say you are playing .10/.20($40 roll) and your roll drops down to $20. By dropping to .05/.10 you now are back at 200BB.

This is even better if you can realize that you are in a downswing before you lose a 100BB's because it allows you to drop down and minimize your losses when your cards or play turn south. Dropping down also can help you to avoid playing with "scared money" and allows you to build confidence and play through the situation.

If you do as someone here suggested and give yourself a "poker allowance," then you can get by with an even smaller bankroll. If you know that every two weeks you'll be allowing yourself $X which equals Y BB's, then you can figure that into your bankroll.

Don't get hung up on the 300BB roll. I often go to the casino with $300 to play $2/$4, never buying into a session for more than $120. Setting a BB goal can be a good measure of when to move up in the limits, but there are other measures of when to move up(check other threads).

But back to your question...if you want to *optimize* your efficiency bonus whoring, I would suggest having a minimum $500 roll and playing at least .5/1(preferably 1/2) for limit. Another strategy would be to build your roll to $200 and have another $300 that you could deposit to get the max bonuses, but not play with.
