Default Borgata MTT Report (comments on deal please)

Just got back from AC on business. Stayed at Borgata Wed. Night and had two options for MTT’s. Harrahs 150 sat for the WSOP, or the 80+20 r+a at Borgata. Opted for the rebuy event mostly because it was where I was staying. It had 88 entrants, and a prize pool of 19K.
Let me tell you, the play is just horrendous, and could not believe what I was seeing.
Guys would call down w/ 2nd pair w/ 4 to a flush on board. One guy called an all in on the flop w/ Qs3s w/ a flop of Kh Jh 3h. It was really incredible. I came to the realization that we are missing out a lot by not playing live more. Asked a few if they play online, and most played sporadically or not at all. The structure was 20 min levels, w/ 1,500 starting chips w/ unlimited rebuys when below 1,500 and one 2K add on after the 3rd level or first hour. The structure is such that the tourney plays fast. Also 20 min live levels is like 5min turbo levels on line, or at least it felt that way.

Found out early on, that it was difficult to bluff, as people were willing to call you down.
In 1st level, doubled up when I pushed w/ JJ after weak MP player min raises w/ AJ and called my raise. Was kind of card dead till the add on, but managed to build my stack a little w/ a couple of steals in the co and button and two re-steal pushes w/ AK.
Only showed the JJ hand in the first hour.

Once the add-on was complete, the craziness continued. Could not play a hand for some time and was moved to another table.

On the third hand here, I am in the BB and the table chip leader raises 3 times the BB from mp, button raises to 6 x BB. I look down at AdKd and push. MP folds after long thoughts and mumblings, button calls who has me slightly covered w/ Ac 10c and MHIG.

The pay outs were for the final 9 only. When we got down to 11, the play was tight, as every one wanted to lock up the 376 for 9th at least.

It was optimal for chip accumulation, unfortunately, lost a significant amount when after a steal go wrong w/ Ac 3c, had to call an all-in due to pot odds.

Luckily, a few hands later, 2 busted out on the other table in the same hand and we had a final table in the money set to go w/ me as the SS in the BB.

A few hands later, Hero pushes from CO w/ A 3, BB calls w/ Q8 and I double up.
We lose a couple of players in the next few rounds, and we are down to 7 an I am SS in the BB.
W/ Blinds at 2K and 4K, I have 3K behind after posting blind and anti, all fold to SB wh is thinking. I hold my 3K over my BB and tell him that its going in blind if he raises. He does raise, and I dominate his 10 6 w/ my K 10 and win.

With in the next few orbits, I am in the BB w/ 77. MP bets, LP raises all in, button, chip leader pushes, all muck including me to MP who calls w/ KhJh suited. LP shows AsJs, button KK, and just like that we are down to 5.

The top 5 spots is worth around 17K
1st 7.4.K
2nd 4.5K
3rd 2.3K
4th 1.4.K
5th 1K

After a round, the chip leader, starts talking about a deal for the 2nd time. He offers 6K for himself, 4K for 2nd, 2K for 3rd, 4rth and 5th with the rest being the dealers tips.. The guy on my left, did not want to deal before as I just kept my mouth shut as SS. He has me covered by about 8K w/ me having 12 K, so I have enough for 3 hands (antis 1K, BB 6K), and he is the only one not willing to take this. I tell him that he is getting a good deal, even though I will most likely bust next, he can not beat this deal unless he finishes 3rd or better. The 3rd place guy had around 37K and was surprised that he wanted this deal. The guy in first had a huge lead w/ 2nd about 50% of that.

He realizes it was good for him and took it.

What do you guys think of this deal?

Should I have played on?
Did not feel I had a prayer and to take almost 3rd place money, (double where I was) was too good to pass up.

it really isn't that bad since there are rebuys and addons.
more like $20 on $240. we just aren't used to extra vig on the original when there are rebuys..although it makes sense.

Now you see why a player like me can do well.

I have made it the final table several times and made a deal instead of playing it out.

I believe in deal making. Especially with the tournament structure, it becomes a real crap shoot.

Nice report. The Taj tournaments have the best structure in AC. T5000 freezeout limits start T25-T50, 20 minutes levels.

It would help to know the chipleader and the other big stacks chip counts. I am inclined to gamble in spots like these and shoot for first, but if he had like 150k, then the deal was fine. Definitely not a bad deal regardless.

Good question.
I did not want to ask for chip counts at the time, b/c thought that may tip them off, that the deal may not be to good for them.

W 88 entrants there was 132K chips in play from orig. buy in. From memory there was 70 rebuys and 80 add ons.

thats 105K chips for r/b and 160K chips for add on. (2K add on)
Total chips in play =397K

chip count at deal

5th 12K
4rth 20K
3rd 37K
2nd 128K
1st 200K

* Note 1st and 2nd estimated based on total chips in play from this analysis.

I got 1/3 of 1st, yet out chipped 17 to 1.
Half of 2nd being out chipped 11 to 1 from 2nd place guy
almost 3rd place money being out chipped 3-1 from 3rd guy

I would still like to here your thought on the deal.

Thnaks

I generally don't like deals, but you got a great one here. Even I'd take this one.
