My butchered jacks
Just moved to the table four hands previous to his hand. We are 4 or 5 away from the money. At first I was going to push pre-flop and try and isolate the initial raiser, figuring chip leader would call with a wide range of hands. Then I figured I'll call and see where the flop takes me, so I can take it from there. Seems to have back fired on me.

I figured that he didn't have QQ-AA. Maybe overs. I must admit a huge weak point of mine is to always discount trips. I ultimately went with one pair and an over as the most likely. I must admit that the thought of doubling up was a big incentive as well, especially since top three is where the money is. With that said, was it even worth getting into the pot in the first place? How would you have played the hand out? Thanks for your responses. For the record I think I made a huge mistake calling the flop, but am more interested in pre-flop play? |

Re: My butchered jacks
Ditto push and isolate this is basically the nightmare circumstance you are trying to avoid.

Re: My butchered jacks
in hindsight it's easy to see a push preflop would have been the play, but i disagree with pushing preflop here, you have 2 players here that have 5 times bb in the pot already, this should give you some respect for the hands they might have, and when the sb pushes post flop, you can easily fold, you still have plenty of a stack left to maneuvre.it is pretty hard to put him on trips here,i would have thought ak clubs, which gives him a 60% chance of hitting a club or a or k,to eliminate you.unless you have a read that he's a maniac that would push no matter what flop came here, other then that i fold here, and give him credit for being fortunite here.
it is a tough one though,he could have called trying to eliminate the small stack, not expecting you to call also, then got stubborn post flop and pushed, not the case here he got very lucky, all in all a very tough spot with jj i guess! |

Re: My butchered jacks
push preflop. if all fold, you pick up 6k more chips, which is close to 33% of your stack - thats a lot.
