Why would I need a DVI to VGA converter? I noticed that on the page at dell as well, but I don't see how it is necessary if a DMS-59 to dual DVI is available.

Well, I got the computer and 2001FP's today. No cord came with it to dual monitor, so I bought a dual-VGA as noone is carrying dual DVI's. I have done a great job of creating dual images of the same thing. I noticed the manual says you need to use a DMS-59 to dual VGA.....so that would be the issue.

make it a lot easier and get a crappy pci card and use that to connect your second monitor. or just buy a good video card. i use mine to play games too, and a 9800 pro flashed to xt is doing the job perfectly.

Well, I'd prefer to avoid buying a lot more STUFF. I know this card will do what I need it to do.....so I guess I need to buy that DMS-59 to vga or DVI cable.

I don't know how much you're going to pay for the cable, but you can buy at Newegg and other places video cards for well under $50 that will add your second monitor capability easily by just giving you a single DVI output, or you can buy cards for 50-ish and up that already have dual-monitor outputs on them, and have 128 megs of RAM to boot. I got one that outputs to two VGA's because I don't have LCD's for $55, but you can put adapters on them to convert to DVI.

Anyway, there are a lot of options out there, and I don't know how much video RAM is on the X300 you have, but if the cables or adapters aren't cheap, you don't have much video RAM, and you want to play games once in a while, getting another video card might not be as big a waste of money as it seems at first glance.

If you have the x300 video card, why aren't you just hooking one monitor into the DVI and the other monitor into the analog? I got the same deal from dell, and everything worked fine the first time I plugged them in this way?
