Default Lates PH artice in Card Player

Anyone ever heard of this 50k-100k heads up matches?

I know there was a 20k-40k a couple of years ago, and from what Iīve read there were several known players playing on one combined bankroll against some rich banker. If i recall it right only Ted Forest played with his own bankroll.

Anyway, there was a lot of talk about this match, but now there seem to have been several 50-100k heads up confrontations and it seems nobody took any notice of it. Can this be right? Or was it just me who didnīt read anything about it.

Furthermore Iīm curiouos wheather anybody playing in this match (and winnig) would be happy that itīs published in a magazine (for tax reasons this is). I may be wrong here though, since we donīt have to play taxes on casino winnings in Austria.

BTW, since there were rumors that Howard Lederer was broke I wouldnīt be surprised if that match really took place. Guess there is (almost) nobody in poker business who would have an adequate bankroll for this game (what would it be? Something like 30 million???)

Who else think that 50-100k is sick?

Best regards

I think 50k-100k is absolutely sick.

Martin, what are the rumours about HL? I heard something like that but how does someone this good go broke?

What doesn't make sense to me is isn't there some other richer and smarter banker (or oil magnate) who would just bankroll the expert poker players? If you have high risk tolerance sounds like a good investment.

It sounds like you're referring to "The Big Game," which goes off occasionally in Las Vegas. Andy Beal, a Texas banker/billionaire, plays a consortium of high-limit players heads up. The high-limit players pool their bankrolls and play Beal heads-up at ridiculously high limits.

If you google for him and "poker," you'll find references to this game. Linda Geenen, who deals at Bellagio and has a blog about it, sometimes references this game.

From what I hear, Beal used to lose regularly, but he's getting better. When you have about how Jennifer Harman won the biggest hand in limit poker history, this is the game she won it in.

50K/100K is just like 5/10, just 10,000 times bigger.

Regards,

T

HL picked up about $130,000 in this year's WSOP, so it would surprise me if he was broke.

Without tens of millions to back it up, that's just gambling in the worst sense of the word.

Except that you could go through $130k in a high limit game in about five minutes. I don't know if HL plays in these or not.

Yes, HL plays in these games. I watched him play Beal a couple months ago.

130k is less than three big blinds. I doubt it has much effect.
