I'm pretty sure if you just say Ladainian, people will get who you're talking about. It's pretty easy to say.

Tell that to John Madden...

Barring major injury, where will Ladanian being ranked in regards to great running backs?

[/ QUOTE ]

Eh, he needs to like 5 more years to enter the dicsussion.

He probably ends up with less than 10,000 yards.

Are you joking me? He has played in the league for 5 years (4 of which the Chargers we beyond pathetic, he was the only option) and has 5900 yards. He is 26 years old. He has 5-7 more years of his prime. I don't think he has a ceiling at this point.

He probably has 5 years left in his career.

BTW, "barring major injury..." well, that's really not something you can throw out when talking about RBs. Ladanian's been worked hard, averaging about 415 touches/season. Last year with a better passing attack and more wins, he had his worst year since his rookie year.

I mean, let's look at it. He's had one awesome year, one great year, and two bad years. He peaked two seasons ago and I don't even know if he'll have as good a year as he had in 2002.

I think he's got 2 1000 yard seasons left in him, maybe 3 if the team decides to stick with him when it's apparent all hope is lost (a la the Titans and Eddie George).

Guys like Curtis Martin and Jerome Bettis are the exception; guys like Eric Dickerson and Gale Sayers are the rule.

I refuse to acknowledge anyone other than Lawerence Taylor as LT.

He is going to have a 9 year career, total? Are you freaking kidding me? He has had two bad seasons?

'01 1236 yards 3.6avg 59recs 367yds 10 TDs (rookie season)
'02 1680 yds 4.5avg 79recs 489yds 15 TDs
'03 1645 5.3 100recs 725yds 17 TDs

All three of those seasons the Chargers were pathetic. Can you name a player who scored more than 5 tds on any of those teams? Please, which one of the seasons was "bad"?

Last year, he was injured for 5 games with a groin injury. If you watched the games you would see he was decoy fairly often. Yet, he still managed:
1335yds 3.9 yds 54 recs 18 TDs.

Also, the contention that he will have 5 more seasons total seems silly by todays standards:

I will ignore Bettis and Martin, the two most obvious exceptions.
Tiki Barber had the best year of his career last year at 30 years old, 9th season.
Corey Dillon had his best year in his 9th season, last year
Warrick Dunn, 30 yrs old, 9th season, best of career
Faulk did not start to decline until his 9th season at 29 years old. However, for his last 3 seasons he has still been productive out of the backfield.
Fred Taylor, while plagued by injuries early in his career has been very strong in his 6th, 7th, and 8th seasons in the league.

An injury free LT will easily rush for 10k yards. Your thinking is outdated.

I expect a great rusher to rush for a little more than 3.6 yards per carry.

Tiki Barber: 9th season, yes. 30, yes. How many more touches does he have than Ladanian? 425.

Corey Dillon: Went to the best team in football with a great O-Line and came off a season where he touched the ball less than 150 times.

Warrick Dunn: has never carried the ball more than 265 times in one year, and never had more than 300 touches in one season.

Marshall Faulk: has only carried the ball more than 300 times twice, has only had 400 touches once.

Fred Taylor: has carried the ball more than 300 times once in his career.

Ladanian Tomlinson: has touched the ball 390+ times every season in his career and ran it 310+ times every season in his career.
