That would be simple if that is what you said. Instead, you made some muddled argument where you contradicted yourself.

This is one of those times where you're being stubborn. What you are now saying is different then what you said before. Whether you intended to or not, you contradicted yourself. All you have to do is say, "oops, what I meant to say was...." but instead you choose the 'dig my hole deeper' route.
