I think the key phrase is "calls they're so used to making". If someone is going to make a call no matter what - then the size of the pot will not help you win or lose, although if you are a favorite to win you want it bigger. If someone is committed to chasing an inside straight no matter what, don't worry about if they get correct pot odds, just get money in the pot. Perhaps at higher stakes you will get a lot of players that will worry about pot odds, but if you have 8 limpers, its probably not a huge concern.
