to answer your question, a min bet means nothing to the nuts. or somewhere inbetween.

usually its a draw and they just want a free card, but sometimes ive seen a set or something they are just begging for someone to try to steal it. It is a gay bet thats for sure

I think they prefer to be called "bets of alternative size".

One time I was playing poekr in the library with a friend. I was in the BB with ATs. button and sb limped, i raised to 4bb, they both called. Flop missed me completely (K94 rainbow or some such thing). sb checked, i checked, button minbet. sb called. My friend said "min checkrasie" as a joke, so I did it. At this point the pot is 16BB. They both folded getting 16-1.

It means they have some piece of the flop, either pair or draw or even overcards.

If people fold, it is a great strategy for manipulating pot size out of position.

minbets in SSNL are almost always a draw or some ridiculously weak hand. the problem is if u pot thier minbet the are usually not folding...well guess that really isnt a problem if u emplot strat effectively, but i like to move people off hands sooooo...they really are not folding draws on flop minbets sometimes they will on turn, but a lot of people are afraid to raise the minbet on the turn so fish get to see a lot of CHEAP river cards, hence why they minbet. as for the minraise i used to fear it from donks, i have even done it twice, but i tried it against maniac yesterday, to slow him down, and he pushed all in and i had to fold....

sometimes if i know my oppoents are super aggressive and i have the huts, i mini bet, expecting him to try and force me out
like flopping a boat with a flush draw, i mini bet hoping they hit there flush cause i know'll they'll bet big when they get it
i mini raised a guy on the river twice just to aggrevate him, and it got him to push, which is what i was hoping he'd do

Min-bets.... i mean bets of alternative size are great for getting lag/tag opponents crazy and spew chips at you.
