$10,000 max money to bring into the US?
Just curious...
What if you want to bring more? Do they tax you? What if you don't declare and get caught with it? ... Hoping for a few serious answers, though I welcome humourous replies. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

As long as you declare it your should be fine. But with this Patriot Act crap and War on Terror you never know. Just wire the money to a US bank and withdraw it here. You could perhaps wire it the casino you are going to play at. Either way they (bank or casino) are require to file a form with the Treasury Dept.

There is no limit to the amount of money (U.S. or foreign) you may bring into or take out of the United States. If you have more than 10,000 dollars or foreign equivalent, however, you must report this to the Customs and Border Protection officer upon entry and/or departure.

I just got back from a trip out of the country. The customs form stated that if I had more than $10K and did not declare it then they could confiscate it.
I have read about a person on this forum who has bought gold coins and carried those instead. They have a face value of say $20 but sell for $400. If gold goes up while you are in transit, you could make (or lose) a few bucks. I agree with the other posters your best, cleanest and safest bet is to wire the money to the casino. You could also carry a money order or certified check.

[/ QUOTE ] I hate when ignorant people respond by blaming something on the patriot act and war on terrorism. prior to 9/11 bring in over 10,000 dollars in cash would have raised alarms as well. Especially undeclared. Blame the war on drugs and money laundering criminals. Patriot act in no way effects this, it deals with subpoenas and warrants. Get your [censored] str8. If its over 10 g's declare it, fill the appropriate papers. You wont be taxed but if you keep brining in large amounts of money be prepared to prove were you got it. As long as you have the proper papers for the money they’ll be no probs (and as long as your not doing anything suspicious like buying weapons or drugs with it lol) Btw if your planning on playing poker with it, and are from one of the tax free euro countries be sure to tell the casino if u ever cash out over 10g’s. u wont have to pay us taxes on it.

I believe that you misunderstood the statement.
The poster clearly stated that he believed that if one declares the money, there shouldn't be a problem. However--- things have changed in the last few years, and what normally "shouldn't be a problem" and what ends up being a problem is now much harder to predict. Surely a well-informed person such as yourself can think of a few recent examples where our government has taken action in the interest of national security in cases that shouldn't have been a problem. You obviously trust the US government. Give a little respect though to those of us who aren't so inclined.
