Default KQs - Party Poker 15/30

9 handed PP 15/30

UTG (28/8/1.4) calls. I am UTG+1 and raise with K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Two folds, and LMP (17/15/2.1) cold calls. BB calls and UTG calls. Four to the flop for 4.5 BB.

Flop is 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Checked to me, I bet, LMP raises, BB folds and UTG cold calls. I call. (Reraise?)

7.5 BB in the pot.

Turn is Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Checked to me, and I bet. This bet would have made a lot more sense if I had reraised the flop. I'm not quite sure what I was doing here. LMP calls, and UTG check-raises. I call, LMP folds.

12.5 BB in the pot.

River 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. He bets, I call. (?)

Do better players fold here? Because at 13.5 / 1, I call almost every time. How bad is this?

I would probably check-raise as many as possible on the turn.

From a 28/8, UTG's most likely holding is 44, 88, and an outside chance at T9s. T9s from a 1.4AF would be likely to bet the flop here. Not betting T9s is so not 1.4.

A cold call on the flop followed up by a turn checkraise is almost always serious danger.

When people say 13.5-1 means a call, I think they're making excuses for mediocre hand reading. You've shown aggression the whole hand and you've called UTG who checkraised a bet and a call after cold calling the flop. You're highly likely to go to showdown, and he's showing enormous strength in a situation where the chances of a bluff being successful are tiny.

On the other hand, you don't want to give the impression you can be pushed off a hand by naked late-street aggression.

Just a few things to consider when making these decisions.

This is very helpful, and it all makes sense to me after the hand, when I have time to break everything down. I still probably wouldn't have folded this, but at least I can work through the thought process.

Now it's a matter of being able to think it through on the fly..

And this is classic: [ QUOTE ]
Not betting T9s is so not 1.4.
