Default Preflop Question

Unusual hand preflop. MP2, MP3, and CO all post. I'm in MP1 with KTo. Two people call before me. Should I call? I folded, but is it close either way?

You're going to get about a zillion to one pot odds for a call here. I think I call and fold to any aggression if I don't get a nice piece of the flop.

Actually, I see this fairly regularly. 2 or 3 posters and early position players that know they want to be in but not how to get there. I was actually at a table last night with a bunch of LAGs so the avg. pot was high. About a dozen hands after I sat down, posted and did nothing one guy in LP knocked out 3 others on the same hand. All 4 of them left the table after the hand, and 4 freshies sat down and immediately posted with me in CO (obviously because of the avg pot size). It checked/folded to me with 75s and I raised. Button, both blinds and all the posters called. The flop came low rags (I probably paired something or had some other backdoor draw, I don't remember), checked to me, I bet and everybody folded.

If I were suited, I'm calling 100% of the time. But offsuit, you think I should call? I was tempted to ask because...I would have flopped kings full of tens on the flop. Someone with pocket 7's called and hit 7's full on the turn. Would have been fun... Isn't hold'em a great game?

I'd raise if I had KTs

I'll play a hand like that only if lots of other people are in beforehand. In early position I fold it. But when you do play it (also for me something like QJo is in that category) then hopefully you hit a nice flop, and profit.

Let's flip the script.

You're in the cutoff with K/10 offsuit. Five players limp. Do you raise?

The answer to that is probably "no." So why would you raise here with five players already in, three of whom have position on you?

You might be slightly more apt to raise in this situation because the posters are more likely to have complete crap than any hand they might voluntarily limp with. Of course, they might also have you dominated, since they haven't defined their hands yet.

You know you're getting into a multiway pot no matter what you do. So, with KTo it's an easy fold. With KTs it's an easy raise. Any good player will tell you the same thing. Good players will have a difference of opinion if you are the button or cutoff and the posters are ahead of you and you hold KTo. Out of position, you'll get 100% consensus on this.
