Default most important

What is the most important thing to know to make money in sportsbetting? For example in Hold Em you won't win in the long run if you play too many hands.

You won't win in the long run if you make -EV bets. Seriously.

Its probably not this simple, but what are some -EV bets? Teasers? Parlay's? What kind of bets are +EV I see people talking about betting against the public or taking underdogs. Just trying to learn from you guys so any help is appreciated.

Sports betting is like any other form of gambling. The only way to win over the long run is to put your money at risk when the odds you are laying (or getting) are better than the true odds associated with the event in question.

For example, if you repeatedly lay 11/10 odds (-110) on outcomes that are 50% to occur, you will lose over the long term. On the other hand, if you do things like lay -500 on a bet where the price should really be -1500, you will win over the long term.

Line shopping is certainly extremely important, but you have to be shopping for the right thing. Getting a good price on a bad bet will still lose you money.

For the NFL, one rule is to make your bets early in the week if you plan to take the favorite, and later in the week if you plan to take the underdog.

Am I correct on this?

Exercise severe discipline in all aspects of your wagering -- bankroll management, game analysis etc.
