Default 99, second hand

$33 tourney on PartyPoker. Pretty new to these, as I started as a cash game player and then have played a ton of MTT. I pick up 99 pretty early. Is this always a raise on the first level, generally? I made it 50, okay? Then the flop comes with one overcard and two callers. Should I bet here or is it spewage? Having a heck of a time with the hand converter, any tips on that too. Just copied and pasted the hand and set it to 2+2 but then it gave me some wacked up answer with (final pot)...

Nope, usually a limp.

If you're going to raise, I typically make it 60 in this level (+1BB for each limper). That is being a bit nitty though.

I think this is a perfect flop to CB. just turns out you weren't ahead (or maybe you were, but whatever).

mlagoo,

Is 10 10 a raise in this spot for you?

I don't hate it, but it's not the way I play it. You are going to get at least one caller in lvl 1 when you raise 50 and you will most often have an overcard. So, the way you played it is fine, but obviously you have to give up to the re-raise.

My approach in early levels, ep, is to limp and play for set value.

If I raise, it's to a minimum of 60 and probably more like 75 here.

I would raise to 60 PF, not too much of a difference but that is what I prefer. I would play it the exact same way, I think this might be a bit aggressive for the 800 chip games but I don't think it is necessarily a leak if you are a good player. Limping is a decent option but I just always feel as though I am losing EV by playing for sets.

If there were two callers PF in better position, though, I would check the flop.

I waver. JJ is always a raise. TT I am more likely to raise, like, MP2 and later, and limp MP1 and earlier. But it really depends on just how saucy I'm feeling that day.

i like a limp better here than a raise to 50, since unless you overraise you usually arent getting a lot of folders. my preferred play here is to raise a bit more usually 65-70, as long as i am first in the pot. as you get later in position you can lower your requirements.

on teh flop what are you concerned with? 88, 22 or AQ really, and maybe AA or KK or QQ which are longshots. i think 88 or 22 do not play it this way, so AQ is the only real concern. tough spot to be in but with no reads on the player you have to fold here.
