math,science,philosophy

whats the chances of making philosophy its own forum?
whats the chances of making a music forum?

I don't think OOT would want to give up music.

I always thought that since philosophy takes up most of SMP, it should be on its own, but then the Science and Math forum would be pretty empty. Unless Science and Math are lumped into other catagories. We already have science discussions from time to time in OOT.

Maybe SMP could become Philosophy or "David Sklansky rants" and Science goes to OOT and Probability becomes Prob & Math???

Good ideas?

I like keeping SMP as it is, and maybe having a branch of OOT for music/TV/movies.

I'm in two minds about splitting music/TV/movies from OOT. I like the idea per se (and I think advocated it a while back), but so many threads about music/TV/movies start as straight, and then get the mental and amusing OOT twist in em. I doubt they'd get so twisted and funny without the entire OOT community involved. I like the convention some OOTers use of using a FILM REVIEW or MUSIC as the first word in the subject myself...

Soooo... I guess I'm saying I weakly favour keeping film etc in OOT.

Also, I think Science would find a good home in OOT too, and math to probability and philosophy has its own forum.

But most of the OOT people will be reading/posting in movies/music/TV, so you won't have to worry about it. Split it, I say. OOT is so huge that a thread started in the morning will be on page 3 by the evening. Nobody will see it. This is why multiple threads get started on the same movie, band, or show.

Making a separate forum for these entertainment media will make searching easier, cut down on multiple threads, and get better responses. The more I think about it, the better idea it is to create a music/movies/TV forum.

Fine if they do, empty forum if they don't, and no more film/tv/music talk on OOT without some anal retentive crying like a little girl to the mods...

Works ok as is, IMHO.
