Default Turn semibluff, time to fire 2nd barrel on river? 5 10

In previous hand I folded to villains mini check-raise on turn in a relatively big pot, villain seems to be agressive side, no better read since this is the first time I'm playing against him.

Villains stack is 2k and I cover.

I'm going to assume that the villian is not playing a lone 4 like this, but you'd have a better idea of whether that is possible or not.

The only other reasonable draw for him is two clubs, and if that's what he had, he just hit. Otherwise, he's been way ahead the whole time, with a hand he will call on the river.

I've gotten myself into trouble a few times recently when I know that the villians hand isn't THAT good, and go for another big bet on the river, but it seems like more often than not, if someone decides their hand is best on the turn, they are NOT folding to a river bet unless it's a terrifying card. In this case, you cannot represent the flush at all, so he shouldn't be scared.

I hate to check 8 high to him on the river, but it seems like you will be called the majority of the time.

There are two problems I see with betting the river, firstly a club draw is one of the villains likely hands, and your not going to be able to get a flush to fold. Secondly on the turn you are representing an overpair. If you had AKc checking raising would be an odd move on the turn, so a big bet on the river doesnt really make sense except as a blocking bet, and if your opponent thought his 88 was good on the turn his 88 will still be good on the river.

Disclaimer, I dont play this high

looks like a check...
sucks to check when you have absolutely no chance to win the pot otherwise, but oh well. he either had a hand on fourth or he has one now. check.

looks like he likely made a flush, so checking was clearly the play.

nothing you can do on this river. check and lose. (hope he bets so you can fold without showing your hand)

i've seen people in this spot fold out of position.

is there ever a reason to do this?

so as to not give away too much information when villain checks behind. of course then you can't see what he is calling you with if he does check behind (meaning he was calling you with a made hand) but it's a two way deal. and the info of what someone needs to make crazy aggro plays might be more useful.
