Default Bellagio $30/$60, I 4-bet preflop, then shut down.

Tight player posts in the CO, folded to him and he checks his option. I raise on the button with AKo, SB 3-bets, CO folds, I 4-bet, SB calls.

SB is a tight aggressive thinking player who I have played a lot of hours with. My read is that he knows I do not need a big hand to raise in my position, so he has likely loosened up his normally tight 3-betting standards from the blind a little (i.e. 88+, AJo+), but he will respect a 4-bet from me.

Flop: 8 9 Q rainbow

check, check.

He had chips in his hand and appeared prepared to continue, probably checkraising me.

Turn: 4

check, check.

After I check, he says something like "...you rascal..."

River: 7

He bets, I fold.

I felt pretty good about it afterward. Comments?

I would feel a lot better about it if I had bet the flop or the turn.

its standard for me...
i like free cars when i have the worst hand and my opponent is never ever folding the winner.
OP said this guy was tight and wouldnt be threebetting an underpair often here, so this is a really bad flop.
if the guy has AJ/AT hes usually plenty content to check along since he has "showdown value"...

ok. but didnt the op say that sb knows hero might be raising light? perhaps this makes aj or a10 a bit more likely. anyway, after sb checks to river, it doesnt seem that a river call could be too horrible. what do you think flawless? why fold river?

[/ QUOTE ]because of what the guy said on the turn, and because i dont think he "needs" to bluff. didnt i already say i thought most players would just check it down wioth most threebet hands that AK beats?

My thoughts exactly.

He told me he had AQ after the hand.
