Default Line I usually don\'t take

5-10 6 max, I usually don't take lines like this, but maybe I should more often.

I have JJ and (~$3k). loose UTG (~$1k) limps, I raise to $45 w/ JJ, folds around and UTG calls. This opponent is very aggressive but slowplays his best hands. He'll bluff to weakness.

Flop ($105) 9h6cKh. UTG checks, I check (mistake?)

Turn ($105) Tc. UTG bets $55, I call (mistake?)

River ($215) 6d. UTG checks, I bet $150 (mistake?), UTG calls quickly.

If you got paid off by a worse hand, you got lucky. The vast majority of the time this will be a weak stab on the turn by somebody exploiting a flop check who then shuts down on the river.
Do not take this line more often-the turn call is fine but the river bet is a bad idea.

i like the riverbet. given how he played it, it is very likely he will call with something less than JJ

I feel I need to check every once in awhile after raising preflop, so I check with overcards here and there and backdoor possibility here and there, the problem is people often lead the turn if you check the flop after raising preflop, so you need 'cover' plays like this.

I think the board is too draw heavy to check on with hand strong as JJ, but I think it would be nice to balance your game by adding similar lines with appropriate hands against "right" opponents.

It's hard to post hands like this. I had a read based on the previous two hours of play that the villain would call the river w/ less than JJ given the way I played it. He flipped T8o and MHIG.

The value bet on the river is very rare for me so that's why I posted - just hard to convey all the history / reads for hands on an electronic forum.

I think the river bet is pretty standard, what hands that beat you play it this way?

Yea, for the past month I've really reevaluated my river strategy, as it was apparent I was missing value..

And from the way this was played... this is a clear value bet.

*doesnt mean I'd play the hand this way though!

I see TP crap Kicker a lot of the time here - maybe I've just been unlucky in those spots - I'm trying to value bet more liberally on the river now.

It's a very good value bet for two reasons:
(a) The way it played out, worse hands will call.
(b) He may fold and you won't have to show your hand. There's value in not showing your hand too. Don't forget that.
