ATo is a trap hand. if you raise with it and are called, you're probably already behind. if you hit your T, there are several overcards to beat you, and if you hit your A, you have a crap kicker. high card hands are played primarily for pair value...this is a crappy pair hand, and the one straight that it can make doesn't add enough to it to make it worth playing IMO.

suited gives a bump because then you can still play it strongly the ~8% of the time that you flop the flush draw.
