Could u handle being blind.

Me and my friend the other day where talking and we got on the subject about being blind. I really dont think i could handle being blind. Theres just so much that u need ur eyes for. I would really think about suicide if i was blind.

Then this got me thinking why cant doctors take eyes out of dead people and use them in blind people. I have no idea how eyes really work so im sure theres a major reason.

I really dont know if i could go without looking at hot girls all day and u couldnt play poker. I wouldnt be able to do my line of work. No more video games theres just way to much that i love to do and couldnt do anymore. I think i would rather lose my legs.

I've thought about this in the past, and I agree with you, I'd definitely be suicidal if I were to ever become blind. I'd rather lose my hearing, or a limb, or my speech than not be able to see. The world would be a very boring, yet scary place if I was blind.

As to your "transplanting eyes" comment...they're already doing that to a certain extent. Cornea transplants are becoming more commonplace (but only help in certain types of blindness). Also, there has been progress in technology where electrical impulses are sent directly to the visual cortex of your brain, which causes you to "see" rudimentary shapes. The technology will continue to improve, especially considering that there are so many baby boomers getting older and losing their vision. Within our lifetimes, the technology that allowed Geordi Laforge to "see" on Star Trek will be a reality in some form.

I tell myself if I lost my eyes Id kill myself, but that is not true, youd be so limited, but life is wroth living, youd learn to get used to it.
