Default To All Clinton Haters in this Forum

How long will hatred of Bill Clinton be the main topic of conversation coming from "pop conservatives" in this forum? It baffles me how pop conservatives seem to consider themselves superior in so many ways, yet their constant hatred of Clinton comes across (to me anyway) as nothing but juvenile jibberish.

I wrote "pop" conservatives because there is a major difference between "pop conservatives" and true conservatives. True conservatives subscribe to a conservative political philosophy. "Pop conservatives" really don't seem to know much of anything about conservative or liberal views, they just "know" that they are right and that anyone who disagrees with them is a stupid liberal. Pop conservatives basically have an "Us vs. Them" attitude, and issues involving what is best for the country are meaningless to them. Pop conservatives are basically morons.

It is everyone's right to bash Clinton if they want. However, when someone engages in constant bashing of a former president who has been out of office for four years it severely detracts from any meaningful point that person may be trying to make.

I do know that Clinton-hating is not limited to the right. But the majority of Clinton haters in this forum consider themselves members of the right. Before you pop conservatives start flaming away, please keep in mind that I am not saying that it is wrong to hate Clinton. I am simply saying that the constant Clinton bashing takes away from any point you may be trying to make (if there is a point). Also, I'm sure some genius will smugly point out that Bush-hating is just as common. Well, Bush is our current president, when he is out of office he won't be a major concern of mine.

I don't hate Clinton, I merely think he was an inadequate President who could have done better.

Clinton inserts himself into discussion, whether it is his library opening or some statement he makes or publishing his book during Kerry's chance at the limelight this year.

Note that Carter does this too (like when he practically called Florida a Third World country when it comes to voting )

Nixon used to do this a bit when he was alive too. Ford, Reagan and my Dad are/were usually quiet.

Sort of my point, I realize different people have various opinions about all the Presidents, past and present. This is a politics forum, and it's OK to discuss history too, despite what Rooster may think.

Clinton should be thanking his lucky stars that gridlock prevented him from actually doing what he wanted. Most of his grand ideas were horrible.

Don't forget Clinton pursued the drug war with more vigor than any other president, including bringing about asset forfeiture laws which are a bigger consitutional violation that anything in the PATRIOT act. Clinton was not a good president but had the good fortune of riding a strong economy and having an oppositional congress to stop his stupider ideas.

For instance, that fool nearly got our health care Canadianized for god's sake. I shudder to think where we'd be if he'd had Dem majorities in the House and Senate....

I agree, Clinton hating is a bit vitriolic and usually for the wrong reasons (lying about sex).

I think Nixon provided valuable political insight, I don't think Ford would have been able to contribute much of anything to the discussion. I believe Reagan was already experiencing Alzheimers near the end of his term in office. I am not saying this to be mean, but I think it's obvious given the number of times he said "I don't recall" or "I don't remember" in response to so many questions.

The elder Bush has been relatively quiet, I think this is due to the fact that he does not have the type of personality where he wants to constantly state his opinion in the papers and on news shows. I would probably be the same way.

I don't think that Clinton inserts his opinion anywhere near as much as the conservative media says he does. I watch an awful lot of news and I don't see where Clinton really tries to put himself in the news. With the exception of the library opening and the heart surgery, I just don't see where he has been much of a topic in the mainstream news.

The opening of a Presidential library is always a big deal. Your daddy's library was built at my alma mater a few years after I graduated and its opening was just as big of a production (and rightly so).

Yes, it's OK to discuss history if the discussion is about history and the context makes sense. But my point is that someone's dislike (or hatred) of a past president really has no bearing on current politics. It seems to me that an awful lot of so-called "political" discussions seem to degenerate in a Clinton hatefest. Browsing this forum will show evidence of this statement.

Thanks for the response. You don't like Clinton, but from what I've seen you are still able to hold a coherent and intelligent discussion. This is the way things should be.

Clinton trashing is still common because so many people continue to profess their love for his years in office and continue to tell people that the whole Lewinksy thing was merely about sex, etc. And the most recent Clinton interview has him playing the role of martyr talking about how the evil Republicans did this and that to him. He will be a topic of conversation for a long time because to this very day the man still has people fooled that he wasn't just a bad joke with the charms and forked tongue of a snake in Eden.

The current flu vaccine problem is a direct result of Hillary getting her socialist vaccine for kids program passed ten years ago, (imagine what might have happened with total Hillary healthcare), yet people who don't know what they are talking about and who most assuredly don't understand economics just blame Bush. Remember that SNL skit where the actor playing Clinton says, "I'm bulletproof"? Yeah.
