Default Bobby Cox is trying to F-me

Because I have a large bet on the astros that invoves them winning the wild card..

OK here's the situation, Bottom 8th, 1 out. Runner on third and the score is 0-0. Both your pitcher and the opposing pitcher are pitching great, pitch count for your pitcher is high 80's.

So your pitcher is up to bat with the go ahead run on third, Kyle Farnsworth is throwing in the bullpen.

I'd say it strictly comes down to the abilities of your pitcher to hit, and how good your pinch hitter is. You have already addressed the ability of your reliever.
So, 2/3 of the scenario is missing.

pinch hit for your pitcher.

if farnsworth is coming in in the 9th, that's like 3 extra runs for your team.

Yeah, but we want to play the NL West. We threw the games up in Philly too, and notice how Smoltz isn't pitching in his spot this go around when we're against the Phillies again.

he should have pinch-hit, but you neglect that hudson was dealing. the phillies had like 3 hits at that point. in addition resting smoltzs elbow is a good idea for the postseason....

I was ticked that Manuel didn't pinch hit for Lieber in the top of the 8th. Sure the guy is pitching great, but you need to score a run to win the game and letting him lead off just starts the inning off with 1 out.

Cox did brainfart this one. Maybe managing vs. Manuel has warped his mind and made him stupid by osmosis.

And the idea that Cox is throwing the games vs. the Phillies is just stupid.

Not gonna happen, my friend. Prepare for Clemens, Oswalt, Pettitte, Backe, Clemens (w/Oswalt avail. for long relief)...all backed up by Brad Lidge. Win 3 of those 5 and you deserve your shot at getting clobbered by the Cards.
